Top 10 Euro 2020 Matches

Here are our choice for the top 10 matches in Euro 2020.

#10 England 2-1 Denmark (Semifinals)

England vs Denmark: Euro 2020 second semi-final | Euro2020 News | Al Jazeera

The most embarrassing cheating in a Euro match, England breezes through the Final not with talent but through a couple of clear (and intentional) wrong calls by the referree and pointing a laser beam to the Denmark keeper during a fake penalty. Denmark should have won that match, but money ruled the night.

#9 Spain 1-1 Switzerland (3-1 pens.) (Quarterfinals)

Spain are the first team through to the semi-final after beating Switzerland 3-1 on penalties. The Swiss went behind through an own goal but equalised through Shaqiri before having Freuler sent off. They held on through extra time to take it to penalties but faltered where they thrived on Monday. Simon made two saves and Vargas missed, and Spain’s three was enough to go through.

#8 Croatia 3-5 Spain (Round of 16)

Spain are through to the quarter-finals after beating Croatia 5-3 after extra time. They went behind to Pedri’s own goal but came back to lead 3-1 through Sarabia, Azpilicueta and Ferran Torres. Orsic and Pasalic both came off the bench to peg them back though and forced it to extra time. Morata added a fourth with a great finish before Oyarzabal added another three minutes later. They could’ve had six, but Olmo was denied by the post late on.

#7 Denmark 1-2 Belgium (Group Stage)

Belgium are the second team through to the knockout stages of Euro 2020 after coming from behind to beat Denmark at the Parken Stadium. Trailing to Yussuf Poulsen’s early strike, substitute Kevin De Bruyne inspired the turnaround. First, the Manchester City maestro set up the equaliser for Thorgan Hazard, before scoring the winner to send his nation through to the last 16 with a game to spare.

#6 Sweden 1-2 Ukraine (Round of 16)

Ukraine book their place in the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 after a 2-1 victory over Sweden in extra-time. It appeared to be heading to penalties, but Dovbyk popped up in added time at the end of extra-time to head Ukraine into the lead and there wasn’t enough time left on the clock for Sweden to respond. There wasn’t an awful lot of action in extra-time, after Danielson was shown a straight red for a dangerous challenge, so Sweden just sat back and defended, but conceded late on.

#5 Ukraine 0-4 England (Quarterfinals)

England secure their place in the last four of Euro 2020 with a 4-0 hammering of Ukraine at the Stadio Olimpico. Harry Kane fired the Three Lions ahead in the fourth minute. Harry Maguire then doubled their advantage almost immediately after the restart before Kane added a third with a close-range header. Jordan Henderson put the game beyond doubt with his first England goal, allowing Gareth Southgate and his team to canter into the semi-finals for the second major tournament in a row

#4 France 3-3 Switzerland (4-5 pens.) (Round of 16)

Switzerland secure the biggest shock of Euro 2020 yet by knocking out the favourites France! After taking the lead and having a penalty saved, Vladimir Petkovic’s team showed incredible courage to come from two goals down to force a flawed France to extra-time. From there the Swiss held on until Sommer’s save from Mbappe’s own poor penalty gave them the victory.

#3 Netherlands 3-2 Ukraine (Group Stage)

Netherlands are off the mark at Euro 2020 with a 3-2 win over Ukraine in an entertaining match in Amsterdam. After a goalless first half, strikes from Georginio Wijnaldum and Wout Weghorst put the Oranje in front and seemingly in command. However, Ukraine launched a comeback through a stunning effort from Andriy Yarmolenko before Roman Yaremchuk equalised with a close-range header. There would be one more twist to the tale as Denzel Dumfries won the game for the hosts, guiding Nathan Ake’s cross past Georgi Bushchan.

#2 Portugal 2-4 Germany (Group Stage)

Germany started brightly and thought Gosens had given them the lead, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside against Gnabry. Ronaldo then shocked Low’s men with a counter-attacking opener before own goals from both Dias and Guerreiro gave the Germans a half-time lead. Second-half goals from Havertz and Gosens extended their advantage but Jota’s tap-in reduced the deficit. Santos’ men pushed on, however, they failed to find another goal, meaning Germany run out 4-2 victors at the Allianz Arena.

#1 Italy 1-1 England (3-2 pens.) (Final)

Why Italy will win EURO 2020 | UEFA EURO 2020 | UEFA.com

It’s not coming home after all, and with good reason. Italy is the better team throughout the 120-minute match, leading the possession to almost 70% as per final stats. England, like what they had from the start of the tournament (easy group stage, home court advantage, lucky knockout stage draw), got lucky with a 2′ minute goal by Luke Shaw. But in a poetic ending, England manages to enter the Final via a fake penalty and ended up defeated via a real penalty. That’s what cheaters and racists and evil England fans deserve and the whole of Europe is celebrating.
