Top 10 Goals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup

We present our pick for the top goals in the 2018 FIFA World Cup from Nachos goal versus Portugal in the group stage, to Kevin De Bruyne’s fantastic goal against England, to Toni Kroos’ historic goal against Sweden.

Top 10: Nacho (vs Portugal)

58′ GOALLLLLLLL!!!! SPAIN TAKE THE LEAD!!! NACHO SCORES A STUNNER 3-2!!!!! Hierro’s men have completed the turnaround as Portugal fail to clear their lines on the edge of the box. Nacho seizes on the loose ball and drills an effort at goal on the half-volley. He catches it crisply and it flies towards the target, striking the inside of the post before nestling into the bottom corner. What a comeback from Spain in the second half.

Top 9: Eden Hazard (vs England)

82′ GOAL! 2-0! Game over! More superb build-up play from Belgium finishes with De Bruyne playing a perfectly-weighted pass through to Hazard, who surges into the box and drills into the bottom left-hand corner.

Top 8: Marco Reus (vs Sweden)

48′ GOOOOAL! Germany equalise! Werner, on the left, drives into space and cuts the ball into the middle. Reus gets in front of Augustinsson and diverts home. Gomez appeared to get a slight touch to Werner’s cross as it came into the area, directing it into the path of Reus. Germany have come out of the blocks flying.

Top 7: Jan Vertonghen (vs Japan)

69′ GOAAAAAL! 2-1! Belgium get one back! Japan fail to deal with a corner and Vertonghen loops a superb header over the head of Kawashima and into the far corner. Game on!

Top 6: Granit Xhaka (vs Serbia)

52′ OH MY WORD, WHAT A GOAL FOR GRANIT XHAKA! SWITZERLAND ARE LEVEL AT 1-1! The Arsenal man fires an absolute rocket of an effort in off the rebound of a Kolarov block on a Shaqiri strike on the right, catching it around 25 yards out on the left and blasting it in at the far post. Out of almost nothing, Switzerland are back on level terms.

Top 5: Kevin De Bruyne (vs Brazil)

31′ AND BELGIUM SCORE FROM THE COUNTER-ATTACK WITH KEVIN DE BRUYNE! 2-0 BELGIUM! Fellaini heads the ball away to Lukaku who charges all the way through midfield, dancing past a couple of markers. The Manchester United striker then locates Kevin De Bruyne perfectly just outside the area, and the midfielder takes an absolutely superb shot which beats Alisson! Belgium double their lead! 

Top 4: Denis Cheryshev (vs Croatia)

31′ CHERYSHEV FOR RUSSIA! 1-0! What an outrageous strike from the Villarreal man! Dzyuba slips around the Croatian defence and squares a ball to his striker, who takes one step around Vida and launches a 25-yard shot that nestles itself behind a shocked Subasic in the top-left corner! The hosts have the lead just after the half-hour mark!

Top 3: Ivan Perišić (vs England)

68′ GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! PERISIC EQUALISES FOR CROATIA!!!!! 1-1!!!! Perisic gets in front of Walker at the cross and he guides his strike beyond the reach of Pickford into the bottom corner. Vrsaljko was afforded space and time on the right flank and he whipped the ball into the box. Perisic made a late run before he stuck his foot out ahead of Walker to steer his effort into bottom corner.

Top 2: Mario Mandžukić (vs England)

109′ GOALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! MANDZUKIC FIRES HOME!!!! 2-1!!!! Croatia take the lead as England fall asleep at the back. A simple header allows Mandzukic to drift in behind Stones before he slots his strike beyond the reach of Pickford. The striker held his composure in a vital moment to beat Pickford with a low strike. Croatia are closing in on a place in the final.

Top 1: Toni Kroos (vs Sweden)

90′ + 5′ WHAT A GOAL! Germany have saved themselves! Durmaz clumsily concedes a free-kick on the edge of the box on the left. Reus tees it up for Kroos, who curls into the far corner of the net. Sensational! A brilliantly worked set-piece and Germany live to fight another day!
