#8 The Flash: Null and Annoyed
Geek Rate: Thief Worthy (2 out of 5 stars)
Well, Null And Annoyed is something of an apt title. It’s not surprising that there would be a bit of a regression after The Flash turned in its two best episodes of the season (and two of its best ever, if I’m being honest) with Enter Flashtime and Run, Iris, Run. It’s just a shame that all of the flaws of The Flash Season 4 had to come to the foreground in such a pronounced way in an episode directed by Kevin Smith.

#7 Looking: From boring to brilliant
Geek Rate: Mortal Worthy (3 out of 5 stars)
“Looking” began like most blind dates: awkwardly. It made introductions and exchanged pleasantries, but it was unsure of itself, and of us. With time, though, it eased up and leaned in close, becoming one of the best new series of the year.
Episodic television, like any relationship, has a funny way of sneaking up on you, and HBO’s dramedy, which ended its first season Sunday night, is no different. The “profound boredom” and “muffled” “mediocrity” its detractors saw at the outset was overstated, but in the early going, creator Michael Lannan and stalwart writer-director Andrew Haigh (“Weekend”) struggled to devise a structure with space for both dense character development and the series’ off-the-cuff vibe. The resulting episodes are disjointed, though littered with note-perfect moments: watching Patrick (Jonathan Groff) divvy up the tab with a doctor after a horrible date, or Dom (Murray Bartlett) wind down from vaguely desolate Grindr sex with a squeaky-voiced neighbor, I couldn’t help a knowing wince.

#6 Timeless: The Salem Witch Hunt
Geek Rate: Mortal Worthy (3 out of 5 stars)
With “The Salem Witch Hunt,” Timeless once again proves its ability to avoid the “Please, if you’ll just let me explain” trope in which the protagonist, you guessed it, never gets to explain. With Wyatt putting all his cards on the table with Jessica, with Jiya finally owning up to her premonitions, and with Nicholas Keynes insisting that Carolyn be taken off the Lucy problem, the drama isn’t being needlessly drawn out, and we can cut right to the chase. Lucy’s willingness to change history and include Flynn in missions makes for a no-holds-barred attitude that has streamlined the action perfectly.
#5 Legion: Different Level of Crazy
Geek Rate: Sun god Worthy (4 out of 5 stars)
In the second season, David Haller was found a year after Amahl Farouk / Shadow King escaped in the body of Oliver Bird, and he was kidnapped by a strange orb.
This series at the very start is a different level of crazy but the art on every scene mesmerized us. There is something sad and dark about watching this show, which should be the case, but the intriguing plot and the scenes will leave you guessing and are a good exercise of the mind if you’re up to the challenge.
#4 Designated Survivor: The Kunami air strikes
Geek Rate: Sun god Worthy (4 out of 5 stars)
In the latest episode, President Kirkman presses forward with more attacks on Kunami’s military infrastructure to bring that country’s strongman emir to heel in the wake of the dirty bombing, but while Kirkman wrestles with his conscience over the mini-war, Hannah—on the ground in Kunami—discovers Kunami’s ambassador has a side agenda dangerous to both the emir and the U.S.
There is something eerily familiar with this story because it has happened just today, an air strike against a sovereign country carried out by the U.S. But then again, this country has a habit of doing such a thing it came as a no surprise.
We dwell on Kirkman’s character in this episode, one who was torn between acting decisively (due to the trauma of the Capitol bombing) and acting with care. The opposing sides were mirrored by his staff, White House Political Director Lyor Boone versus National Security Advisor Aaron Shore. Apart from that, there were the exciting scenes that we came to expect from the show. But it doesn’t seem to lead to the major plot leading to the season finale. Or maybe we’re just missing something here.
#3 Bull: Controlling the Jurors
Geek Rate: Sky god Worthy (5 out of 5 stars)
We call this show bull*** of course, but you can’t help but feel glued to the court scenes and how the team of Dr. Bull worked to win every damn case that was presented to them. We’re still waiting if they will lose.
Despite the critics saying that the premise of the show was not that new, there is still something about this show that would make you jump for the next episode. We don’t particularly like Dr. Bull, for some reason (maybe because of his voice?) but we sure love how the story in every episode progressed, with a heart-stopping verdict every time. The science behind studying jurors is bull of course but it’s fiction and with that, let’s just enjoy the show as it presented to us.
#2 Rise: “I believe in helping the kids grow up in the sun, and not in the shadows”
Geek Rate: Sky god Worthy (5 out of 5 stars)
As per wiki, Rise is an American musical drama television series created by Jason Katims, starring Josh Radnor in the lead role as Lou Mazzuchelli. The series is inspired by the book Drama High by Michael Sokolove, which focused on real-life teacher Lou Volpe and the famed theater program at Harry S Truman High School in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
This is not another Glee, filled with cheesy songs and high school love story, the show focused on the story of a community and its people, the story so deeply portrayed and written in such a raw voice that it was scary in its realness. We love the individual characters’ story, their struggles and how as one they strive to put up a theater show that would showcase their talents, their dreams and their hope for the future.
This is not a cheesy show, this is real, a mirror of our daily lives.
#1 Scandal: “We are not the heroes of this story. We are the villains”
Geek Rate: Sky god Worthy (5 out of 5 stars)
And it all boils down to this: the reveal of B6-13 and all of the gladiators burning down into ashes. In the last few episodes of the show, the battle between President Grant and Vice President Beene reaches its climax, with Olivia Pope having to testify on the special committee handling the hacking of Air Force 2. Pope, it transpired chose the one road the show refused to travel in its seven-season run, to stand in the sun, really stand in the sun and reveal the truth.
Equally heartbreaking and exciting, the last episodes leading to the series finale are a blur, with Pope being lost for a while but eventually finding the “white hat.” She made a decision, a surprising one as was her style, a decision that would bring all of them down.
The premise of the final conflict seemed petty, with the number of times we’ve seen Beene and Jake Ballard as villains (and all of them for that matter), we thought it was a good idea to use someone new, or the equally evil mother of Olivia. But it all makes sense. The dismantling of the B6-13 program, which made all of the characters villains in those past seasons, to have them stand in the sun as the last episode approaches. The villains to be defeated are they themselves and it was genius and simple. We wait with excitement and sadness for the last episode.
