Day 8: Germany marches into the semis after defeating Portugal: 4-0 in men’s football
Germany booked their spot in the semi-finals of the 2016 Summer Olympics men’s football tournament in Rio de Janeiro, easily beating Portugal 4-0 on Saturday. Serge Gnabry gave his team the lead just before half-time with a low strike, and Matthias Ginter doubled Germany’s advantage from a corner after the break. Davie Selke added a third goal after 75 minutes before Philipp Max put the final score on the board just before the full-time whistle.
Day 8: Host Brazil set to face disappointing medal count
Host Brazil is likely to miss its medal target after losses in judo, almost certainly a first Olympics without a swimming medal since 2004 and dashed hopes in tennis and archery. After registering a record number of podiums at London 2012 with 17 medals, Team Brazil set a goal for Rio of finishing in the top 10 medal winning nations. But with just four medals in the first week of the Games –one gold, one silver and two bronze — Brazilian athletes will need to perform better to fulfill that objective. Italy finished 10th in the total 2012 medal count by taking home 28.

Day 9: Neymar lifts Brazil to the semis in men’s football, beats Colombia: 2-0
Brazil beat Colombia 2-0 in their men’s football quarterfinal at the Corinthians Arena on Saturday to move to within a game of the gold medal match at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Brazil have never won Olympic gold at football but both the men’s and women’s sides have reached the semi-final stage of Rio 2016.

Day 9: British hero Adam Peaty failed to beat Michael Phelps in last swimming event.
Great Britain finished with six medals from the Olympic swimming meet as Adam Peaty fired the relay squad to a creditable silver medal in the 4×100 medley relay. In the final race of the swimming competition, Team GB found themselves in the lane next to a certain Michael Phelps, and they could not deny him a record 23rd Olympic gold medal on his farewell appearance at this level as the USA finished the meet as they began it – dominant. But the Brits, whose swimming budget was slashed 20 per cent after their flop in home waters at London 2102 four years ago, exceeded their target of three to five medals in Rio.

Day 10: Tea USA beats France in men’s basketball, narrowly.
After narrow and uninspiring victories against Australia and Serbia last week, the United States men’s basketball team entered the final day of Group A play at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in need of a convincing win over France. Isolation-heavy play dominated the Red, White and Blue’s tactical approach in its last two efforts, but it responded with more ball movement in a 100-97 win over a French squad stocked with NBA talent.
Day 10: As athletics begins, France turns to Christophe Lemaitre for gold medals
Disembarking in Rio, Christophe Lemaitre knew there was not much to hope for 100 m. It may nevertheless be a valuable lesson for the 200m. The Savoyard was the first French to drop below 10 seconds for 100 meters, he was eliminated in the semi- finals, however, improving his best time of the season (10″07). Day 10: US swimmer Ryan Lochte held up at gunpoint
American gold medallist swimmer Ryan Lochte has been held up at gunpoint after a party in Rio. Ryan Lochte, won gold in Brazil in the 4x200m freestyle relay, and three other American swimmers were out celebrating when they were robbed at gunpoint early on Sunday by thieves posing as police officers who stopped their taxi and took their money and belongings.
